Old Town School Performance 2008
Yahvi's Birthday 3.2.08
Photo Gallery for March Event 2007 This month's Fandango at Gallery Colibri ended up with great music and a great turnout that lasted to the wee hours of the night. We want to thank all of you for coming out. We hope the tamales were warm the drinks were cool and you leaving with smiles on your faces and music in your hearts. We want to thank the house band Tarima Son for allowing us to host the event and we also want to thank Victor Pichardo and his band of Pichardos. They performed the second half of the night with many instruments and great zapateado dancing that show cased the talents of his familia. Los Pichardos also led us into the customary Fandango which is a free for all for anyone who wants to join in by singing, dancing or playing an instrument to keep the festivities alive. Special thanks go out to Priscilla for guest singing with Cantaro. Shamila for leading our Zapateado dance. Sharon for helping to setup. Ale for the tamales & cake. Norma for serving drinks. Jennifer for showing up and Nancy for coming late.... HA! I may have missed others but we thank you. Hope to see you soon! Click on picture for photos! |

"We Danced with the Wolves!" 3.15.07 Wow, no tengo palabras, what a show at the Metropolis Arts Centre in Arlington Heights. (3/15/07) Being that it was a smaller venue we were able to get up close and personal with Los Lobos, unlike the Ravinia show of 06 in Highland Park. These guys are great, very laid back cool dudes and awesome musicians with talents that one day we aspire to be. These guys define the word cooool! Orale! As many of you know we are inspired by Los Lobos and cover many of their original & traditional Mex acoustic songs, Saint Behind the Glass, Cancion del Mariachi, Guantanamera, Cielito Lindo Huasteco, Mexican Americano, Ojos de Pancha, Volver Volver and more. It was unbelievable seeing & hearing them play live, Acoustic y En VIVO! Chiin it was Great! El Squeezo, Marco, myself & our chicas had the time of our lives. Their performance opened up with sones de Veracruz that eventually lead to our dancing and sing along with the group. Our mujeres danced to "Maricela" was a nice delight for the Wolves and us. Dancing cumbias con mi chiquita to songs like "Maria Christina" in front of Cesar and the cool crew was an ultimate high for me. And Shammy ready to break out the dance styles of Veracruz the Zapateado to "Canto A Veracruz". "El Cascabel" & "Pajaro Cu" were songs that was a surprisingly delight that Los Lobos played, which we didn't expect, made for a great choice of Jarocho songs altogether. And to sing Guatanamera with Conrad was much to my delight. (He holds his guitarron so low,,como vez,,maaan too coool!) Louie was awesome to watch the rascados on his jarana and his singing of "Saint Behind the Glass" one of our favoritos. I was happy to see David pull out his squeeze box with Steve's sweet horns in "La Pistola y El Corazon". I love that songs guapango then to waltz style, it's so traditional with a Lobos flavor. David's vocal's are so distinct and smooth and gives many of their songs that unique sound. Cesar reminds me of a ultra cool version of a tio of mine. You feel like familia around him and his presence emanates style and old school class. Mi mujer asked him why he doesn't take off the shades and his response was "cause I hypnotize people with my eyes". I believe it, their music defiantly does. I only wish we had more time to ask the many questions we had on their lyrics / vocals, playing and instruments,,orale keep it clean....what are you thinking..... Questions like who inspired them and que tipo de comida Mejicano les gustan. A table seating at the edge of the stage would have been nice too, pero unos pinche uptight gueros que no tenia idea de que estaban cantando, had the good seats. I would have like to have seen more "Raza" there. Cuando Marco grito "Viva Veracruz!", Cesar hit it right on the money saying "What are you guys doing over there, you guys need to be here". It would have been great to spend more time with the masters but at least we were able to get some cool threads para nuestros chicas & us to support the band. And best of all after the show we got some how do's, hand shakes & autographs and a chance to throw in a few "pa quick" questions Cantaro style. Marco chickened out and didn't asked them to sign his chi chis... ha! I'm sure "El Squeezo" was at an all time high since out of all of us is quite the devoted fan and knows much more of Los Lobos lore and legend. I was happy to see my brutha from another mutha and fellow band member enjoy what a true fan deserves,,,,,not to mention he had the better seat than all of us. Bastard!! Hasta dejo su mujer "Mo" sentar en la esquina seating. What a caballero huh?,,,Ha! but I don't blame him we may never get this close to the Wolves again and this experience was a pleasure and delight, inspiring us to move forward and practice our craft like Los Lobos did.
Check out Los Lobos Media Player to listen to their music. Buy a CD will ya!! www.loslobos.org
